Tips for Extending the Lifespan of Preserved Flowers

Many times when I craft pressed frames or epoxy pieces, a common question I receive is, 'How do I take care of these to ensure the best conditions for preservation?' Well, I’ve got you! I have compiled my top ten recommendations to assist you in preserving your pieces.

  1. Keep Out of Direct Sunlight:

Place preserved flowers in areas away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause fading and deterioration of colors.

  2. Control Humidity:

Maintain a consistent and moderate humidity level in the environment where the preserved flowers are displayed. Extreme humidity can impact the condition of the blooms.

  3. Avoid Exposure to Moisture:

Prevent preserved flowers from coming into contact with water or excessive moisture, as it can lead to rehydration and damage to the flowers. This is especially true for framed pieces.

  4. Handle with Care:

Gently handle preserved flowers to avoid breakage or damage. Delicate petals and stems can be fragile, so exercise caution when arranging or cleaning them.

  5. Regular Dusting:

Dust the preserved flowers regularly with a soft, dry brush or a can of compressed air to keep them free from particles and maintain their visual appeal.

  6. Use a Display Case:

If possible, encase preserved flowers in a display case to protect them from dust and other environmental factors while still allowing them to be visible.

  7. Control Temperature:

Maintain a consistent room temperature, avoiding extreme fluctuations, as temperature variations can affect the integrity of preserved flowers.

  8. Optimal Placement:

Choose an appropriate location for displaying preserved flowers, considering factors like airflow, temperature, and light conditions to ensure their longevity. Make sure you put them away from heavy traffic areas, I can already tell you a couple pieces have been dropped due to rambunctious pets!

  9. Seal in Resin:

For added protection and a unique aesthetic, consider sealing preserved flowers in resin. This not only safeguards the blooms but also creates a visually appealing and durable display.

  10. Avoid Touching:

Minimize direct contact with preserved flowers, as oils and dirt from hands can transfer onto the blooms, potentially causing discoloration over time. Use gloves when handling if necessary.
